John Hasler 1765

Back to List

John Hasler Esquire is my 4th GGF b 1765. I don't know a lot about the Hasler family. Ancestry trees indicate that John Hasler Esquire was a Captain in Her Majesty's 28th Regiment. His death notice in the Freeman's Journal newspaper says he died at Whitehill, County Wexford on 27 Sep 1839. He is the son of the late Sir John Hasler. Sir John Hasler was Chamberlain to several Lord Lieutenants in Dublin beginning around 1770. I have read several interesting paragraphs regarding Sir John Hasler in the book "Champagne & Silver Buckles" by Joseph Robins regarding the Viceregal Court at Dublin Castle 1700-1922.

John Hasler Esq. married Mary Holmes about 1790; he could have a first marriage to Margaret Ward. His children are John, Sarah, Thomas, Louisa, Charlotta, Lucinda, Harriet, William Benjamin, George Massey, Hannah and Frederick Horatio. Most of the children were born in Kingstown, County Dublin and the last name is sometimes shown as Hastler. Birth records indicate the family was Roman Catholic although other family members are Church of Ireland. The Hasler's lived mainly in the town of Dalkey and in County Wexford.

The John Hasler family is confusing because there is Sir John Hasler b 1730, his son John b 1765 who also had a son John b 1790 who was married to Louisa Hume and resided in Kingstown. John Hasler b 1790 was a prominent member of the poor Law guardians of the Rathdown Union and for a number of years served on the Kingstown Commission.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information or is related to the John Hasler families.

Comments

  • John married at least twice. Firstly on 4th June 1787 in Dublin, secondly on 11th January 1823 at Waterford. Children of the first marriage were: Maria, John, Thomas, Lucinda, William, George, Sarah and Frederick. Children of the second marriage were: Margaret, Harriot, Catherine, and Louisa. There were probably more children born later. Cheers John
