John Hodges was born around 1812 he died 13th March 1879 (i think) in Antrim Belfast, he was a military man and enlisted in 1831 he was a sergeant in the Royal Irish Regiment 18th Foot ,he served around Kent and Bristol England, he married MaryAnn Tong in 1844 in Clifton Bristol England where he had a daughter Esther and John, he returned to Cork in 1852, he was a butcher by trade. My great grandfather was born in 1853 in Bandon Joseph Squire Tong Hodges who returned to England. I know all about him but no clue as to my great great grandfather John Hodges.
I have traced his daughter Esther so far and dont think she ever left Ireland, she married a John Charles Porter and had six children I believe she died in 1917 in Strabane Ireland. Her son William Hodges Porter emigrated to Mackay Queensland Australia and became mayor .
