John J O'Donnell was born in Ireland (most likely Ballyshannon, Donegal) to Owen O'Donnell and Ann McGongal. Guessing around the 1840-50s. He ended up in St Louis MO with some of his sibs - at least James, Patrick, Ann and Bridget. He and his brother Patrick were St Louis City Policemen. Patrick committed suicide at the time of his sister Bridget (O'Donnell) Dorsey's death. John was killed in a tolley accident. There were indications that both brothers might have had a drinking problem.
John married Rose McNeely, the daughter of Patrick McNeely and Rose McDonagh. The McNeely family was from Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland and possibly Donegal. Rose (McNeely) O'Donnell died in 1913 in St Louis MO. She and John had three daughters: Anna Mae; Celeste; and Rosalie O'Donnell. Both Celeste and Rosalie never married. Anna Mae, my grandmother, married David C Malin (my grandfather).
