John McChesney 1764

Back to List

John McChesney was born on/about Feb 10, 1764 in Co. Monaghan. He migrated to America about the age of 6 weeks. It is believed he may have been on the ship "John" that left Newry May 10, 1764 with Dr. Clark's Cahan's Exodus. Nothing is known of John's family for sure, but his father and grandfather might have been named William. John's family may have migrated from Co. Armagh, possibly from the Killylea area, and some may have migrated to America in 1732. John may have lived near Salem, NY in his early years, then married at the Presbyterian Church in Cambridge, NY in 1785. They then moved to Hebron, NY about 1786. John then moved to Rupert, Vt. about 1796, and then moved to Richland/Pulaski, NY. about 1813.

He died on Nov. 15, 1824 and is buried at Pulaski Cemetery, near Pulaski, NY.. Based on John's birth date of about Feb 10, 1764 and his probable baptism, presumably in the Presbyterian discipline, prior to May 10, 1764, is what I am hoping will help connect him to his parents and my ancestors. Any assistance in helping solve John's lineage would be greatly appreciated.
