John McCready was born in Donegal circa 1793. He travelled with his wife, Mary (McCrea) and two of their children from Londonderry to Saint John, N.B., Canada in 1829 on the ship 'Jessie and Flora'. This ship was one of those which carried lumber to Ireland and took passengers back on the return trip.  Although no official record of this ship has been found, it (or one of the same name) was mentioned in the records of another family when it brought ancestors from Londonderry to Canada in 1820.

John died in New Brunswick in1881 and his wife, Mary, in 1879.  It is believed that two brothers of John McCready, Thomas and Andrew, also emigrated to New Brunswick about the same time.
