John Morrissey (Morissy) born c. 1784 married Mary Connell at St John's Roman Catholic Church, Kilkenny in 1826. They had seven children, baptised in Gowran, and lived in Cloghala Townland as cottier tenants on a 1/4 acre of land owned by Gervase Bushe Esq. of Kilfane Estate. Two children John and Bridget emigrated to Sydney, New South Wales in 1848 during the Famine. The following 5 siblings emigrated during the gold rush. Their parents John and Mary followed in 1863. John died and was buried at Old Ballarat Cemetery in 1869. His wife, eldest son and his wife and child were also burined in the same plot.
The family's history and that of Co. Kilkenny (1170s-1850s) has been documented in a new book 'Australians of The Great Irish Famine One Clan's Story. 2 reviews have been published. One by Mary Flood, Family Historian at Kilkenny Archaeolocial Society (confirming accuracy of dates and places) and another by Michael McGirr. His review can be read at https://tintean.org.au/2021/10/10/the-detail-is-where-angels-lurk/ .
As the author, I'm self-publishing it. It's for sale at pjmpublications.com.au.
