My ggg-grandfather, John O'Reilly (O'Riley in USA) of Lavey Parish, County Cavan, IE moved to Dane County Homestead in 1850 with wife, Anna Littlefield Riley. John is buried in Paoli, Dane, WI with tombstone DOB 13FEB1818. John probably married Anna Littlefield in IE, then went to Troy, New York, USA about 1846. First child Mary Ann born 1850 in Montrose, Dane County, WI.

Searching for baptism records and marriage for John or Anna. Per my nephew that visited in 1995, there were ~20 John O’Reilly born (County Cavan) that month per records office in Cavan. He could not get copy of records. I do not know whom to contact.

I was wondering can you find the names of his parents? Just guessing by Anna's surname he most likely met and married her in USA, so you need to find their marriage cert. Also search around the census records to see if there were any of his own family members with him, the combination of these may help you find the parents names.

I have located a niece Margaret Riley (father Matthew) in Troy, New York in 1840 census and subsequent letters to John's son, Frank O. Riley in 1873, addressing Frank as cousin.
I could not verify the relationship of John Riley with Matthew Riley (Troy, NY). I have John Riley buying land and living in Dane County, WI from 1850-1889.
I am currently analyzing the revised 1821 census for Cavan County against the Griffith's Valuation Survey. Looking for John, Matthew, Margaret, Honora, with surnames; Riley, Higgins, Cusack, Littlefield, etc.
