    John Patterson was born Oct 1824 Monaghan Ireland, the son of John and Annie Patterson. He severed in the military when he was 18 in 1842 and again when he was 25 1849. John married Letitia Stinson in Coothill Cavan Ireland in1870 when he was 46.  They had 12 children in 22 yrs. He arrived in Quebec Canada after leaving Moville Ireland and stopping in Glasgow Scotland before the crossing. In 1881 he and family are Farmer in the Draper TWp, Muskoka Ontario. He was a founding member of the Muskoka area and is buried in the Uffington Cemetary.

    From his obituary : 

    We have laid to rest this week one of our oldest settlers, Me John Patterson, who after a lingering illness extending through most of last winter passed peacefully away Thursday afternoon at the good old age of 86 years. The funeral took place on Monday last to the Methodist cemetary, service being previously conducted in the church by Rev W.M. Gandin. Who preached an excellent sermon. The funeral as in charge of the L.Orange Association of which Mr Patterson has been a member for a Goodman's years being a member of the black chapter. He was born in County Monaghan and came to Muskoka 31 years ago where he hewed out for himself and family a comfortable home and has proven himself an upright, honest, true citizen and a good neighbour and a kind and loving father, respecting all who became intimately acquainted with him. He leaves behind him a widow and 9 children all whom were present at the funeral being two daughters and 7 sons, 6of whom acted as pall bearers and was followed to the grave by a large number of sympathetic friends and neighbours
