According to family history, John Slattery was born or lived in County Clare. He immigrated to America on 9 April 1850 on the ship "Manhattan" from Liverpool to the Port of New York. He married Winifred Hogan on 13 Jul 1852 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Goshen, Orange County, New York. Whether John and Winifred knew each other before their immigration is presently unknown. Their first child, Michael, was born in Connecticut - location unknown, but perhaps near Hartford, CT. Their next two children Mary & Anna (Mary SLATTERY Fitzgerald and Anna SLATTERY Murray) were born in New York, location unknown. The following children were born in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, where John and Winifred were living by 1860, first in the Town of Fond du Lac and then at Auburn - Winifred R., Cornelius, Margaret, Ellen, John, Thomas William and Bridget.

John  SLATTERY died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on 23 Jan 1904 and was buried at St. Michael's Cemetery in Mitchell, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, next to his wife Winifred and two of his children who had died young.(John & Bridget). He was a farmer and owned land at Auburn, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.
