John STEWARD was born c1833 and married Johanna HANNIGAN in 1846 at Knocklong and Glenbrohane, Limerick, Ireland.  He was convicted of larceny in the Limerick Assizes on 2 July 1849 and was sentenced to 7 years transportation.  Arriving at Fremantle, Western Australia, via the Phoebe Dunbar in August 1853, John successfully petitioned to have his wife, Johannah, join him in Western Australia c1857.  Three sons and four daughters were born to the couple in Western Australia and it is believed at least one child (perhaps William) was born to the couple post-marriage and died in Ireland prior to Johannah's departure.  John's parents are listed as James STEWARD and Eleanor O'DWYER and Johannah's as James HANNIGAN and Ellen CONDON.  John died on 18 May 1903 and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Toodyay Cemetery.  Johannah on 7 October 1904 at Thistle Hill Farm, Meckering, Western Australia and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Roman Catholic section of the Meckering Cemetery.

To assist with possible naming convention connections, the children of the couple born in Western Australia are: Willam; Thomas James; Ellen; Catherine; Mary Ann; Johannah; Annie; and John.

John and Johanannah are my third great-grandparents and I would sincerely love to be in contact with my Irish kin.
