Joseph emigrated from Ireland to the United States where he can be found in the 1860 census and after. He lived in Clinton and Highland Counties in Ohio, mostly in a village called New Vienna, in Green Township, Clinton County, Ohio, USA. He eventually moved along with his sons to Cincinnati, Ohio, and then across the river from Cincinnati to Covington, Kentucky. Joseph had a son and a grandson both also named Joseph Toohey. The grandson, born 1907, was called Joseph Anthony Toohey, Jr. Was this Joseph Toohey, b. 1836, also Joseph Anthony Toohey? No records have so far been found with that information.
In the 1880 US Census for Penn Township, Highland County, Ohio, Joseph's Father Patrick, Mother Mary, and sister Anna b.1840 all three list "Conner" Ireland as their place of birth. Is this Connor parish somewhere?
