Looking for my GGGrandfather Martin Mannix, he married Mary Rice in Liverpool in 1857, but prior to that we can find nothing, no birth, no idea where he came from. My father thought he came from Cork originally, but we have no proof of that,. On his marriage certificate he lists himself as a boot maker, his father John as a tallowmaker, and his mother is listed as Ann. From census records, we are estimating his years of birth as 1828.
Family lore suggests that he came to England "on the run", no mention was ever made of siblings, but I assume (this being a Catholic family) that he must have had brothers and sisters.
His children were Mary Ann, Margaret, Elizabeth, John, Bernard, Helenor, Catherine, Martin & Teresa. Bernard was my direct ancestor. Martin died in Liverpool in Oct 1880.
Any help or suggestions as to his origins would be much appreciated.
