My Great Grandmother Mary Ann Darcy (Father, Patrick Darcy and mother Betsy Gavlock) was born about 1859 in Leitrim. Her Australian marriage certificate says she was born in Relanan. There is no such townland in Leitrim but we assume it could be Corraleehan. Despite searches in Roots Ireland, and other family history sites plus hiring a professional genealogist I have been unable to verify Mary Ann's birth or her parentage. Mary Ann had a sister Bridget born about 1876 who came to Australia to look after Mary Ann's children. The only information I have which is possibly Bridget's is an entry in Find My Past for a Bridget Darcy born 1875 in Bawnboy but no parents are listed.
Bridget died in 1915 aged 39. As death certificates can be unreliable her birth year may not be correct. Her sister Mary Ann was placed in a mental institution in 1890 following the birth of her last child in 1889 so I don't think she would have been asked for information. The death certificate simply states she was born in Leitrim. Bridget was said to be in Australia for 18 years which puts her entry about 1897. I have not been able to find her on the shipping records.
Mary Ann married Robert Little in 1880 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. They had 5 children all born in Brisbane: Patrick John Little (1881 - 1969), Robert Little (1883-1884), Robert James Little (1884- 1936), Mary Ann Little (1886- 1905), Bridget Little (1889- 1945).
