Mary Bohan left Ireland and married Patrick Coveney in London in 1854, giving her birthplace as Skibbereen and her age 21. She bore seven children, three of whom died in infancy. After her husband's early death in 1867 she worked as a sack maker, bottle washer and in a lead factory. She died in 1892 after falling downstairs 'during a fit of giddiness caused by lead poisoning received while working at lead works some years previously'.
