Mary was born 1858 at The family farm at Dreen, near Cullybackey. She married William Sands 4 December 1883 at Brookside Memorial in Ahoghill and is buried there. Her father was Matthew and mother was Mary Douglas.
She and William had 8 children (Jane, Matthew Mary, William, Samuel, John, Robert and Agnes). William, John and Mary left to settle in Geneseo, Livingston, NY and St Petersburg, Florida.
Mary had 8 siblings (Jane, Ann, John, Matthew, Samuel, William, James and Robert). Her sister Ann married Samuel Sloan. Matthew married Lizzie Ellis. Matthew, his wife and sons Matthew, James, Robert and daughter Mary are buried at the Reformed Presbyterian churchyard in Cullybackey
