Mary Hogan nee McLoughlin was my great-grandaunt, she was born Nov 1850 in Nenagh, to Michael McLoughlin and Catherine Kennedy from Newport County Tipperary.
James Hogan (1841-bef. 1885) was born in Hospital, Limerick to Michael Hogan (1816-1878) and Margaret Slattery (1817-1894) and lived in Castleconnell with his 4 siblings.
The Hogan family of Castleconnell were listed as painters that included James’s father, brothers, and nephews.
Mary and James Hogan married on the 7 Oct 1872 in Newport and lived in Castleconnell, Annacotty, County Limerick and had 6 children all born in Castleconnell.

Around or before 1885 Mary emigrated to the USA without her children and appears to have been a widow at that time. She settled in Boston where she lived till her death on the 24 May 1932.
James Hogan died sometime before 1885 as Mary was listed in Boston as a Widow of James. I have yet to find a death record for James Hogan either in Ireland or the USA.
In 1896, Sarah and Michael joined Mary in Boston, then in 1898, Margaret arrived. In 1900 Mary returned to Ireland for the funerals of her father and sister and on her return to Boston, her remaining daughter, Catherine returned with her.
None of the 6 children married or had any children I could find. Only Sarah and Catherine became USA citizens.
I find this a sad story and wonder how many family lines ended with the children not marrying or having children.
NOTE: James’ brother John Hogan (1843-1936), also listed as a painter, did have children and remained in Castleconnell.
