Matthew Barrett (1825-1895) of Carrowmore (farm #18) small farmer
He was the Mathew Barrett who married Margaret Dowd on 8 February 1855.

In 1842 and 1857 he lived at farm #18 Carrowmore, where he was leasing 12.5 acres of land and a house (taxed at £1 per year, must have been recently built). He was classed as a 'small tenant farmer, raising young cattle, and selling them on to graziers for fattening. His brother, Michael Barrett (1833-1890) had the farm next-door at #19 Carrowmore. They were both tenants of  Richard O'Farrell Caddell.

At the time of the next land valuation in 1864, this Mathew Barrett was recorded as "gone to America" and farm #18 Carrowmore was in the name of Michael Goldrick (aka Golrick).

It is believed that this Matthew & Michael Barrett were the brothers of Stephen Barrett (1842–1922) who emigrated to the US in 1863 (parents Stephen Barrett & Brigid Sharkett both deceased).

Matthew Barrett & Margaret Dowd of Carrowmore had two children: Stephen Barrett Jr (1855-1916) who became a hotel proporieter in McKean, Pennsylvania and Katie Barrett (b. 1858) who also lived in Franklin PA.
