I wonder if he is a relative of my 4x gg grandfather, also Michael brennan, born in ratoath but lived in kiltoghert. Born 1792, emigrated to UK in 1866

Tarith: Thank you for commenting. Common name but certainly possible. My Michael Brennan immigrated to Canada about 1843 with family and lived in Hundington (Canada East Montreal) and also in Champlain, Clinton County, New York where he died. If you are on Ancestry you can check my tree which has all the information. It is called Walker and Walton Family Tree. Dates for spouse Ann Kane are born Ireland 1804 died Burlington, Vermont 1898. Please let me know if you feel there is a relationship. Mary Kay

Morning Mary,
I think there must have been a family connection spanning cross-county, my 4 x gg grandfather Michael Brannan was born in Ratoath, Co Meath but he then moved to Kiltoghert along with his family sometime in the 1830s as my 3 x gg grandmother Ann was born there. It may be coincidence that the place names match but it is quite an obscure place for both Michaels to be in, and there are a lot of Michael Brannan/BRennans in my ancestry so it seems that people were named after elders. Probably more than likely a cousin connection perhaps?

Possibly a cousin connection given the Irish naming patterns and there is usually some truth in coincidences. Too bad records that far back are few and far between so we will probably never know. Gives us something to think about anyway. If you ever find any clues I would love to know as I have documented almost all of my Brennan family from the time of their emigration and could not find any reference to their time in Ireland. Much luck to you with your Irish ancestor search. Mary Kay
