  • Hi, I think the Dore name is not common in this area, so Catherine Dore born in 1868 will be connected to you in some way.  She married Michael Dillane the brother of my Thomas Feury Dillane (migrated to Queensland about the same time as your family came to Australia. )  Michael and Catherine raised a family of twelve in Glin. Her parents were James Dore and Mary Fitzgibbon.   Your Hanorah possible aunt? Mary Dillane

  • Hi Mary Ellen,

I would also assume that the Dore's would be related somehow - Glin isn't a large area and I guess lots would be related.  I can't get back much further than I have already with this family - I don't think they were a prominent family at all.

    Thanks, Jen

  • Forgot to add - my records show Hanorah was the daughter of Maurice Dore & Margaret (nee Creedon).

  • Hi Jenny, I think the family could be more difficult to trace for two reasons. First the families had plenty of girls, if this is the case they should be in the Glin church records on the National Library of Ireland site. I know that Catherine's father was a carpenter, so they would be in trade records not farm records. Way back in time the Cregan families came to Glin as stone masons from Meelin in County Cork to do a major job on the castle, so maybe the Dore family arrived to do work in the same way. Happy to share what I have reking@bigpond.net.au

    Bye Mary Ellen
