Michael McCabe was born in 1810 in County Cavan. He had two older brothers, John born in 1806 and Patrick born 1808, and three younger sisters, Kate born 1812, Bridget born 1814 and Mary born 1816. His Father was Terrence McCabe and his Mother was Mary (Tierney). The 1821 census of Ireland shows Terrence (Terince) and family living in the Parish of Lurgan and Townland of Dereven (Derryevin).
I believe he arrived in New York on June 1,1836 on the Ship Propontis. He originally settled in Hartland Township, McHenry County Illinois (where his brother Patrick later came and settled) but then moved to Bluffton Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa in 1854 and began farming.
He was married to Catherine (Baker) and they had five children, Mary 1840, Terrence 1842, Margaret 1846, Bridget 1848 and Michael 1849.
Michael died April 14,1890 and is buried at St. Agnes Cemetery, west of Burr Oak, Iowa.
