Michael McIntyre : Short Biography

Michael was born 24 September 1816 in Kinvara, County Galway. His father's name was reportedly Edward. No records of his life in Ireland have been located. Michael emigrated to the U.S. in 1843 with his wife, Bridget _________, and they settled in Springfield, MA, 90 miles from Boston. They had four children: Bridget (1841-1919), Michael Jr. (1844-1846), Joseph (1846-1848) and John (1848-1926). Bridget died after the birth of their fourth child and she is buried in Springfield, MA. Her headstone shows her birth and death years as 1819-1848.  Michael then married Eliza McDonough who was born to Peter McDonough in 1830 in Ireland. No records of her life in Ireland have been found. They had 11 children including my great-grandfather, Francis Peter McIntyre (1871-1948) who is pictured here. The McIntyre family moved to the small farming community of Ransom, IL about 1865. Michael died there on 5 August 1890 and he is buried in St. Patrick Cemetery with his wife Eliza who died in 1908.  Their headstone is pictured here.
