Michael Ryan's Baptismal entry in Newport Parish register reads -  Michael  son of Michael & Norry Ryan , Pollagh. 26 January 1841

He arrived in Melbourne aboard the "Empire of Peace on 4 October 1861 & followed his brother to the Creswick area near Ballarat.

Michael married Bridget Catherine Ryan (born Coolready,Castleconnell,Limerick) in 1874.They moved to Timor in the Maryborough area,

then moved back to the Creswick area & farmed at Kingston,Bullarook & Blowhard.

    I have researched Pollagh pretty thoroughly over the last month,the one my family lived in is west of Newport right on the border of Tipperary & Limerick.

    To give you some indication,  in the Parish of Abington just across the river in Limerick there are 161 entries for Ryan.

    There are at least 4 other Townlands called Pollagh in Tipperary & more in other counties.

    I will certainly check out the Facebook Forum.
