Migrated to/Born in USA

Michael Sullivan was born in Ireland circa 1805-1810, I believe in county Cork. He married Catherine in Feb 1843 in Newmarket.  In 1848 he and his wife along with their son John (b1846), went to Louisiana. In 1854 they had a son, Patrick William Sullivan.

  • Hi...I'd like to chat.  While Michael, Catherine, and Patrick are not names I know, they may be related to my Sullivan ancestors from Newmarket (Meengorman / Meenygorman area) who also immigrated to Louisiana at around the same time.

  • Hello. Who were your Irish ancestors in Newmarket and surrounding areas? There were many Sullivans there and I'll bet they were related somehow. At least some of them.

  • John Sullivan born 1808 in Newmarket Clonfert area was my ancestor probably a brother of Michael. John married Betty Flynn. Their son Daniel born 1831 married Mary Browne. They had seven children. Daniel died in 1883 and his wife and six of his seven children emigrated to Haverhill Massachusetts. John the eldest stayed at home and married Eliza Casey. They were my great grandparents. John

  • Maybe cousins then. My 4x great grandfather is Jeremiah Sullivan from Meengorman area of Newmarket born sometime in late 1700s.  Three of his sons went to Louisiana sometime in 1840s (we think just pre-famine), then one son and two of his children went to Montreal (the father died on the ship after docking, but the family was released and the wife remarried in Canada; the other two children were adopted by one of the uncles in Louisiana), and a daughter married a man from Millstreet (near New Market).  While the daughter stayed in Ireland, a number of her children went to the US, and in fact, one daughter came to the US and married her cousin who had been adopted by the Louisiana uncle.  Jeremiah's wife we *think* was a Dineen...but there are so few records going back that far, that we can only guess.  Browne, Casey, and Flynn aren't names familiar to me.
