My 2nd great-grandfather, Nicholas M. Carroll, was born 5 Jun 1805 in Freshford, County Kilkenny, Ireland. He married my 2nd great-grandmother, Bridget Martin (born in 1815), also from Freshford. They were married in Lisdowney Parish, Diocese of Ossory on 4 Mar 1834. They first eloped, and married publicly later in the chapel of Clontubrid. I even know that the witnesses were Mary Hickey and Patt Whelan. They had 7 sons: Patrick, Martin, John, Nicholas, William, James and Joseph. The first 5 sons were born in Kilkenny. The last 2 James and my great-grandfather, Joseph, were born in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
Nicholas' parents were Richard Carroll and Elizabeth Holden. He was baptized at Owning and Trmplrotum, Kilkenny.
I have been to Kilkenny and had a wonderful visit with cousins I met on-line who were related to Bridget Martin, his wife. I would love to know more about Nicholas' life in Kilkenny prior to emigrating in approximately1845-1850. Anything you know about his family there in Kilkenny, I would be thrilled to hear about.
