  • Patrick Quinn is my 2nd great grandfather, so I was happy to see that someone had added his name to this discussion/database.  I have been able to trace my roots back to Scandinavia on my father's side and half my roots to England on my mother's side, but we have yet to make the connection to our Irish family roots.  All we know, according to open source records, is that Patrick Quinn arrived alone in 1871, most likely to the port in Boston from Queenstown (Cobh).  Any records prior to that have proven extremely difficult to locate.  According to a few records in the Lowell, MA area, it appears that his father was Patrick Quinn and his mother was Johanna Bethel and he claims to have been born in County Limerick, according to his Naturalization record.  His birth years have ranged from 1849 to 1854, depending on which US census or record you look at..  His gravestone lists his birth year as 1850 and death in 1900.  I am hoping someone is able to use this information to assist with any helpful Irish records.

  • Thanks for responding. Patrick Quinn was my great grandfather. I too know very little else other than what you have. Hopefully others will respond.

  • Since my last post, I located an obituary in the Lowell (MA) Sun Times from 1900 that offered a few new clues. We had thought he was in the US by himself, but his obit mentioned a sister who lived in Lowell ("Mrs. Mary Connors," which turned out to be Mary O'Connor). I was able to trace her family in the US. It also mentioned that he had another sister at the time of his death named "Annie Bow" in Sydney, Australia, but I had no luck tracing her. The obit also stated that he was from County Clare (not Limerick), but I had no luck there either, trying to trace him and his sisters back to Ireland.
