Patrick Crown was the son of Richard Crown of Pollboy and his wife, Sarah Meehan. Patrick married Ann Clancy of Farrabar in 1860, and they had five children in Ireland: Richard, Sarah, Kate, Charles, and John. The family emigrated to New York around 1870 and settled in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York where they opened and ran two hotels and pubs. They had four more children in the U.S.
