Patrick Francis Colliton was born in Piltown, County Kilkenny and married Catherine Brennan in 1871 at Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary. Patrick and Catherine had at least one child, Thomas Patrick, and possibly a son James and daughter Mary Catherine. At age 27, Patrick emigrated to the United States alone, arriving in New York on 26 June 1888. It is unknown what the circumstances were and what happened to wife Catherine. Son Thomas was later found in New York but it did not appear that father and son ever reunited. Patrick settled in Staten Island and married Anna Agnes O'Donnell, of Ireland. They had five children. Family lore is that Patrick worked with horses in Ireland but there are no specifics. He was employed as a coachman in America.
