Patrick John Duffy born County Armagh , Newtownhamilton on 26 December 1880, parents were Patrick Duffy and Catherine Mcmahon, Baptised on 2 January 1881 .Parish of Creggan ,Lower .The sponsors were Hugh and Ann Murphy .Family lore says that his father Patrick, was killed while working for or on the railroad in the area.The 1901 Census shows Patrick [the father] as deceased and survived by his widow Catherine age 40 and daughter Maggies , age 14 living at # 5 Shamble Lane, Newtownhamilton,. The son [my grandfather] had already left for the USA in 1898, via, Liverpool, Brooklyn NY , Dover NH and finally Portsmouth NH. Patrick John Duffy later sent for his mother [ died in 1930 and sister and they relocated to Portsmouth NH.His friends here were the Mackems. Boyles, Molly Harterman and McGees.
Returned to County Armagh in the 1924, 1937 and 1957 . From photgraphs of the trip, some of the people he visited were the Kennans, stayed with the Slanes in their cottage ,John Slane [ 1924] , children ,Jenna age 17 [ apparently she was my grandmothers favorite did the cooking] ,Bridie ,age 8 and Michael [ have their First Communion and alter boy photos,] two children were away at the time ,Gretta a singer , age 16 was away at a school in Newery and a 13 year old Geraldine , Ned McGee, Father Devlin and O'Mallley's Drug Store.
Have quite a few photos of my grandfathers school friends, sevral of what looks like Customs Officials, Customs Shed and some type of uniformed. men .Also a 1921 photo of men and women , armed to the teeth, Mauser pistols , ammo bandoleers , Enfield rifles .and bayonets ,note on the back say s "Flying Column 1921 ".
