Patrick McChoney was born about 1825 in Ireland. He married Catherine Dolan and it is unclear if they married in Ireland and emigrated together or married when they reached Canada and/or New York. Their first child, Bridget, was born in 1844 in Canada, their second child, Catherine, was born in New York in 1847, then Mary Ann was born in Canada in 1849, and John was born in New York in 1851 (near Buffalo). They moved to Pennsylvania where they settled permanently by 1856 where James Henry was born, then Jeannette in 1858 and Margaret in 1862. Patrick served in the American Civil War in the Pennsylvania 137th Regiment and also served with the 3rd Pennsylvania Artillery. After the war, he bought property in Richland Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
