  • This Patrick may be my ggreat uncle, who came to US with several brothers and one sister, Catherine. I live in the US and have done extensive research on this family as have several others.

This family basically settled in Minnesota by the 1850's after several stops on the way.

  • I too have been doing genealogy for many years and even went to County Mayo, Ireland in 2019 to see where they lived. I live in Minnesota where they settled and have Murray family pictures of Patrick Murray and his family and some others.  My Murray family tree is John Murray, son Patrick Murray, daughter Jane Agnes Murray who married Anthony Baynes, who had a daughter, Agnes and son Sylvester Baynes, who had Charles, Anthony and me Rosemary Baynes.

For Patrick Murray's brother John B. Murray in the history of Renville County, MN it said: Came to US in 1840's settling in Paynesville, Ohio. Came to America in 1850.  Worked on the Erie Canal, farmed 2 years in Ohio, farmed 2 years in Iowa before moving to Houston County, Minnesota for 1 year, then to Blue Earth County. Settled in Medo township in 1865.  Dec. 3, 1864 he enlisted in Co. F, 57th III. Vol. Inf., discharged at Louisville, KY, July 7, 1865.  He was with Sherman at Atlanta and was wounded in the hand at Nashville.
The above from History of Renville County.  Information on Patrick Murray was He came to Bird Island, MN in a covered wagon and he drove cattle. He lived in Bird Island, MN for the last 10 years of his life. From Parish Annagh, Immigrated 1851 in 1910 Federal census.

Patrick born Nov. 1831 Lugboy, County Mayo, Ireland  Died July 13, 1910 Bird Island, Renville County, MN married Bridget W. McNiff or McNeff 1858, born Nov. 10, 1836, died June 3, 1914.

I have that Catherine married Thomas Carey and I have information on this family also from the Heritage of Blue Earth County, MN

What family are you from and are you willing to share information?

  • My  Murray tree is John, son Thomas(wife Margaret McArdle/McCardle), grandson James(wife Josephine Leifermann), great grandson, Thomas F. (wife Mary Whiteaker). I believe John (#1) came over earlier than Patrick as he was in Minnesota by 1851- 1855. John married in Paynesville, Ohio in 1849, had his first child that year and another on the way to Minnesota, in Illinois.

More than willing to share what I have. As new information is gathered I add it to my paperwork. I have copies of the brothers' ciitizenship/naturalization applicatons.

John's father was John B. His mother was Brigit.  This information came from the application for Civil War marker completed by John's son Frank, a MN legislator.

  • John B. did not injure his hand as a result of the war. His hand was injured in an unrelated event. There is no record of the wound in the military records. He tried to claim a disability to receive funds, but the money was denied him as there was not record of the injury. My guess is that he was involved in some altercation or tried to rob someone and was shot in the hand for stealing. Who knows but there is a story out there somewhere.

It would be nice to have access to a family bible.
