Patrick O'Gara (Garra/Garrah) emigrated at age 19 from Glencolumbkille Donegal. He left Derry in the spring of 1842 with a ticket of passage to Summit Hill, a small mining village in Pennsylvania. His ticket had been sent by his older brother, Michael (Garra) who had come in 1839. Another brother, Cornelius, joined them a few years later. Patrick married Margaret Lyons, daughter of Patrick and Bridget and had among others, my grandfather, Patrick Henry Garrah, in 1857.

Patrick Henry married Mary Elisabeth Connolly born July 2,1862 in New York City to John and Mary Donovan Connolly, natives of Cork, John was the son of Daniel Connolly and Johanna Daly. Mary was the daughter of Timothy Donvan and Mary Neal, natives of Clashnacrona, Dunmanway, Cork. Mary Donovan emigrated about 1858 as did John Connolly and they were married in 1861 in New York City. The Connolly family then moved to the Pennsylvania coal fields.

I need help in identifying the ancestral linage of Patrick O'Gara as I have reached a dead end. Likewise, I cannot identify information on the birthplace of John Connolly.

Hi i'm not sure if we spoke before about this but let me begin my great grandfather was Cornelius Sharpe. He was born in Donegal, about 1825-ish, and immigrated to Schuylkill county Pennsylvania as a coalminer. There was a name change from GERIN, but there had to be 20 different spellings. So when I see this surname i'm just wondering maybe? If you have a tree on ancestry or a GED match number I'd be willing to work on this this is just a shot in the dark. Thank you. Lisa
