Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in UK

Patrick moved to South Wales. He is on the 1901 census living in Cray Brecon as a lodger in the home of his future wife Catherine. They married in 1902 in RC church in Brecon. They had 5 children Anney, Ellen and James and two others who died at birth.

Patrick was one of 8 children listed below.Their parents were Michael Shanahan and Annie Harrigan/Hourigan. Annie’s parents were James Harrigan/Hourigan and Mary Michie. I have not been able to locate Michael’s parents.

I have found the birth/batispm records for Michael and Johanna in Pallsgreen and Templebredin Diocese Cashel and Emly.

I have also found the Registrar’s record for Patrick being born in Barna.

Michael and Annie Shanahan are living at Templebredon Limerick on 1901 census and Treanmanagh Templebreadon Limerick on 1911 census. Michael died in 1916 (if this is the right one).

I have not been able to find any information on Patrick’s siblings other than John who also lived and died in South Wales.

Also noted on the 1911 Ireland census is John (son) and Joseph (grandson aged 11). Either John had returned for a holiday with his parents or lived in Ireland before returning back to Wales where he died in 1959. I don’t know for sure with this it is an assumption. He is also noted as a widow in the the 1939 England and Wales Register. So I think this may be why he returned to Ireland.

I’m trying to pinpoint the location of the church they would have attended so that we can visit it when we come to Ireland in June 2022.

If anyone knows anything about any of Patrick’s family, I would also be interested in finding out about them.
