Paul Harper was born in Templepatrick, County Antrim in 1775, he married Ann Weaver in approx 1800 and he died on January 19th, 1837 in Killnakee, Templepatrick at the age of 62. His father may have been Peter and his mother may have been Nancy or Agnes.  Paul and Anne had 6 or 9 children; Peter born 1801, Nancy born 1806, Susana 1808, Samuel 1810, Andrew born 1810 and John born 1812 and possible 3 or more other children.

Andrew married Maria Gleghorn in 1834 and they left for Australia in 1841.

  • Hello,

My ancestor Samuel Harper *might* be from Templepatrick.  I've made several "best guesses" to assume that he was born around 1815, certainly somewhere in Ireland.  He married Elizabeth and moved first to York, Englanf around 1840 and then to New Jersey/Philadelphia in 1843.  Perhaps he is the same Samuel Harper that you've mentioned.

  • Stephanie,

Very much appreciated receiving your message.  Paul and Ann Harper had 7 or more children and I did find a Samuel born approx. 1810 in Templepatrick so could be your ancestor.  I will do some more research and let you know.

    Stay safe.

  • Dear Cherill,

I am so grateful for your willingness to help.  So very kind of you. I will share the facts that I am certain of, and those facts that may be clues to my family and Templepatrick.

I am certain that my 3rd GGrandfather was named Samual Harper,  born 1810ish-1815ish in Ireland. No stated city or region.  He died in Philadelphia in 1890. Records show his birth year all over 1810, 1804, 1816. Really not sure.

I am certain that his wife was Elizabeth Mawhinney born 1813ish (1805, 1816) somewhere in Ireland.  Her records also cite various birth years, but *ALWAYS* as two years *older* than her husband Samuel.

I am certain that their children include:

Their 1st child, Jane Harper was born in Ireland about 1837.

Their 2nd child, Mary Ann, was born in England in 1840

3rd child, Elizabeth, born in New Jersey, USA in 1842

Records that *MIGHT* be my family in Templepatrick:

    1) Marriage record of a Samurl HArper and Elizabeth Mawhinney

April 8 1836  Is this them?  Maybe!

    2) Baptism of Jean (not Jane) Harper, daughter of Samuel Harper

                      Aug 20,1837  Is this them?

Lastly,  a woman named Mary Harper, born in Ireland around 1790 was living near and even with them in Philadelphia in the 1860s;and 1870s. Perhaps Samuel's mother?

If you see any link to these folks, I would be amazed and excited to find a more precise link to my Irish roots.

    Best to you,

    Stephanie

  • Dear Sephanie,

In my notes I did find a Samuel Harper who married Elizabeth Mawhinney OR Margaret Hill OR Jane Reid.

Also his older brother Peter born July 15th, 1801 married Mary Mawhinney on August 21st, 1835 in Templepatrick.

The 1841 and 1851 Cenus have Peter and Mary living with a Mr. William Harper at 68 Rosapenna Street, Belfast with other Harpers.

    Will keep researching.

    Stay safe.

  • Hello Cherrill,  Sounds as if there were a lot of Harpers and Mawhinneys living in that area.  If I could just get one solid bit of data to tie the Templepatrick group to *my*  Harpers, wow - that would be amazing. I have exhausted all the readily available online records.

I am so gratful for your time.

Mega apologies for my silence but I am chasing so many ancestors, but have had no luck with Paul and Ann Harper.  There are a LOT of people on Ancestry searching for Paul and Ann but noone has been able to find their parents.  Will keep searching.

Hope you had a very happy Christmas and are looking forward to a better 2022.

  • I'm also interested in who Paul & Ann's parents were. Andrew Harper (Pauls son who emigrated to Australia) is my GGG Grandfather. I have done quite a lot of research on the Australian end and have published it at https://harperfamilytree.com/

  • Dear Gary,

I have seen your information on line but have not contacted you; however, I was delighted to find your message on Ireland Reaching Out.  John Philip was my GGG Grandfather so we are distantly related.

I have been in contact with a genealogist and am hoping she may be able to assist find the parents of Paul an Ann (nee Weaver or Neaver) as a lot of people have been searching for their parents without success.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
