Born in Athenry, Co Galway, to Michael Clasby and Ellen Cunniffe Clasby of Craughwell, Co Galway. Immigrated to America in 1891 at the age of 17, settling in Boston, MA. Became naturalized in 1896, and married fellow Galway immigrant Bridget Greaney. Fathered about 8 children. Worked as a Bartender prior to Prohibition.
