St. Patrick's day descendant.
Peter Keane b about 1799 was a farmer living in Gardenhill, Castleconnell, Limerick. Little did he imagine that a little over 200 years later, he would have a 2nd great grandson born on St. Patrick Day in USA. Peter Keane had to take out several sustainablity loans during the great famine, but managed to provide for his family and survive the great famine. In the Griffiths valuation, it shows he had managed to keep a sizeable amount of land. When he died about 1858, the family farm was passed down to his eldest son John Keane b 1819 and John's descendants still live on that land in Gardenhill today.
Peter's second son, Terence Keane b about 1825, left Ireland at about that time and immigrated to Pennsylvania USA. Terence and his sons were laborers working on the sawmills in Williamsport, Pennsylvania during a great labor boom.
In 1939, Terence's great grandson Thomas Patrick Kane was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1939. From family stories and his middle name being Patrick, my father, Thomas, was always proud of being Irish. My siblings and I have also been proud to be part Irish and were thrilled just a few weeks ago to discover for the first time where in Ireland our Kane/Keane ancestors were from- Gardenhill.
