Peter Wallace 1719 : Short Biography

GGGGGG Grandfather Peter Wallace, Jr. was born in 1719 in Ireland to Peter and Elizabeth (Woods) Wallace. My GGGGG Grandfather John Wallace (Peter's son) was born in the United States and was an Ensign in the Rockbridge, VA Militia. They were the Scotch Irish and Peter Wallace, Sr was born in 1680 in Scotland and died in Ireland.

The youngest of six children he would have been around six when the family set sail from Ireland to Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania and later onto Rockbridge Co., Virginia. He married his first cousin, Martha Woods (1720 - 1790) who was the ninth child of Michael and Mary (Campbell) Woods.
Peter and Martha had 9 children, six sons and three daughters: - Malcom Wallace (served under General Morgan at Boston) - Samuel Wallace (m. Rebeccah Anderson and commanded at Fr. Young) - James Wallace (ensign in the Third Virginia Regt.) - Adam Wallace (Captain of a Rockbridge Company.) - Andrew Wallace (Captain of a Company in the Eighth Virginia Regt.) - John Wallace (m. Jane Miller) - Elizabeth Wallace - Janet/Jennet Wallace (m. John Beard) - Susannah Wallace

It was rather a sad life for Peter and Martha Wallace as five of their six sons died in battle during the American Revolution. It has been said that of all the members of the Wallace-Woods Clans, none had a nobler record in the great struggle for freedom from the British yoke than did Peter Wallace, Junior, and his wife Martha Woods,who gave five brave sons to that sacred cause: Samuel, Malcom, Andrew, James, and Adam. It appears that these five sons all died during the life of their parents.

Peter Wallace, Jr. is a recognized American Revolution Patriot by the Daughters of the American Revolution for "Furnished powder for the army." His Patriot Index Number is: A119946.
