Philip O'Callaghan was born in County Cavan in 1820. He left Liverpool as an assisted Migrant on the 'Neptune’ and arrived in Pt Phillip Bay, Australia on 28 March 1841 probably with his sister Frances Elizabeth (Fanny).
Employed at Golf Hill Station near Geelong in Victoria, Australia from 31 May 1842, until September 1850. From July 1850, while he was on Top Station on the Moorabool River, Philip had a property at Shelford west of Geelong. His brother Patrick joined him at Top Station in June 1850 and eventually took over from him that September.
Philip married Ann Chisholm (b. 10 November 1832, d. 4 April 1919) in Gelong on 1 February 1853. They had 13 children. Philip died in a riding accident at Gerangamete Victoria Australia on 21 May 1879.
