Parents were Patrick Burke and Mary Glenney Burke. Listed with family on ship's list arriving in the United States on 12 November 1847. He had 5 or 6 siblings born in County Limerick, Ireland and 1 or 2 born in the United States. The family settled in Will Co., Illinois, USA but in about 1861 Richard went to Mississippi to find work building a bridge with 2 of his brothers. He joined the Confederate Army and at the end of the Civil War in 1865 he went back to Will County, Illinois. He married Eleanor Keigher in 1867 in Wilmingon, Will County, Illinois. They had 7 children. About 1882 the family moved to Grand Juction, Iowa and farmed. Eleanor died in 1888 in Grand Junction. Richard died 13 October 1900 in Grand Junction, Greene Co., Iowa, USA
