Richard Kilroe was born about 1818-1820 in Kings County. He married Jane Colley in Moate, County Westmeath, in November 1839. They had two sons baptized in the same church; Stephen born Jan 1844 and Thomas born July 1845. Richard married a second time in Clonaslee, County Laois to Elizabeth Webb in 1855-1856. Their first daughter, Susan, was born in Clonaslee in 1857 and baptized in the same church, St. Manmans. Richard and Elizabeth immigrated to New York City in the US in July 1857. There that had John 1859, Mary 1860, Richard 1862, Elizabeth 1868 and Catherine 1871.  Richard became a citizen of the US in October 1865 after serving 3 years in the Union Army fighting in the US Civil War. He was wounded at the Battle of Petersburg and lost one and half fingers of his right hand.. He was a laborer by trade so life was very difficult for the family after that. Richard died on December 2, 1904. He is buried with his wife, Elizabeth in Calvary Cemetery in Queens, New York.
