Robert served in India and Ireland and also Malta where he was discharged from the Army in November 1878.He spent the rest of his life in Woolwich,working at Woolwich Arsenal.He had seven children,two with his first wife,Mary and five with his second wife,Emma.Two of his sons followed him into the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers,James being killed at the Somme in 1916.
Robert enlisted in the 27th.Regiment of Foot in Westminster in 1858.
