I have recently viewed the immigration records of the voyage of the "Amelia Thompson" which left Glasgow (date unknown at this stage) and arrived in Sydney on the 29th September 1839 (strangely enough that was the date I chose for my first marriage...a coincidence??!!) I found that the spelling of the same was SUMMERVILLE not Somerville so I have corrected in here. He arrived with his wife Rebecca a house servant and two of their children, one being my great grandfather William Summerville father of my grandfather John Alexander Summerville. Robert was a farmer in Ireland.?? Would love to know where he actually lived and worked. I assume he worked as a tenant farmer in County Tyrone area. They went on to have another 9 children.
When they arrived in Australia they were granted land in Wingham New South Wales, where they became very successful and many descendants still live in the area.
My grandfather John Summerville was at one stage a policeman and then he moved to Kandanga where he became a farmer. Kandanga is not that far from Gympie. He was married to Lucy Maude Hockings. They had seven children, five girls and two boys.
