Robert Young was born about 1806 at Anna Guinea Lodge, County Tyrone. He married Elizabeth Howard about 1829. A daughter, Margaret, was born in 1831, another daughter, Sarah, was born in 1833.
In 1834, Robert and his family left Ireland for Australia, arriving in Tasmania on the "Sarah" on 14th February 1835. A son, Robert James Young, was born in Hobart Tasmania in March 1835.
By 1836, they had moved from Tasmania to New South Wales, settling at Jamberoo. Here they had another eight children.
Robert was a land owner in the Jamberoo area for many years, he retired to Sydney, where he died on 7 May 1873.
