As far as I can ascertain Ruth Burgess was a daughter of John Burgess (1804 - 1869) of Drummond, Dungannon, county Tyrone and Mary Edwards (1828 -1893).
Ruth married James Hammond (1828 - 1902). Ruth and James spent the majority of their married life at Farlough Cottage, Newmills in county Tyrone. Ruth employed my great grandmother (Martha Tennyson) as a general servant in 1891 from the age of about 16 years from the Dungannon workhouse. Ruth and James had 3 sons, Richard Hammond 1878 - 1899, Matthew James Hammond 1879 - 1954 and William John Hammond 1882 - 1951.
Martha later, also worked as a general servant for Ruth's sister Elizabeth (Lizzie, nee Burgess) Lowe in Dublin. Both Ruth and Lizzie gave Martha references as to her competancy as a servant when she decided to emigrate to Western Australia in April 1898.
