Circumstantial evidence, and the register of Samuel's second marriage, links Samuel to George Cochrane (1791-1857) as a potential father or perhaps a relative who took him in on his coming to Canada. His mother, as named on register of Samuel's second marriage, was Christiana Nesbet. The family settled in Hamilton Twp, Northumberland Co., Ontario, Canada. On an 1851 census, Samuel is in a household with George (head), Mary (step-mother?), Margaret, Isabella, William, Armstrong (this is a middle name, first might be James or Walter) Cochrane. There is a George jr, located at same lot, different household. George sr was on censuses in Hamilton twp as early as 1822. But Samuel is said to have been born in Ireland no earlier that 1826. Samuel moved to adjacent Alnwick twp in early 1850s and was married to Isabella Argue. She died before 2 Feb 1864 when he remarried to Ann Jane Finney (1842-1923). The family moved to Darlington Twp, Durham co. Ontario, in 1878 where they stayed.
