Born 1791 in Derrybeg, Drumachose, Newton-Limavady, Keenaght, Derry, Northern Ireland.

Matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1806; graduated 1810 with a degree in Theology. Licensed to preach the gospel as a Presbyterian minister 1812 by the Presbytery of Route, supplying vacancies by appointment.
Emigrated April 1819 from Londonderry with wife Mary Ann and infant daughter Sarah Ann Hill to be minister to the Presbyterian congregation in Sheffield, Sunbury, New Brunswick, Canada.
Departed April 1820 from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, arriving in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19 May 1820. Received a call to be minister in the Presbytery of Huntingdon (central Pennsylvania). He and wife Mary Ann had five children: Sarah Ann (1819), Samuel Thomas (1826), Marcus (1827), Ezra Wilson (1830), and Mary Martha (1835). Died 14 March 1872 in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania, United States.
