Samuel McCleary was born in Carnbeg Townland near Clough, County Antrim, Northern Ireland on 12 August 1844 to John McCleary (21) and Elizabeth Ann Herbison (24). He emigrated first to Ontario, Canada when he was 9 in 1852 with his parents, one sister and two brothers. Two additional brothers were born on the farm in Ontario. Samuel and his family moved to Pierce County, Wisconsin in the early 1860's. The family farm is still in existence today and farmed by one of his descendants. Samuel married Hester Herbison 1st of January 1877 in Union township, Pierce County, Wisconsin. Samuel and Hester had seven children. Samuel died on the 8th of October 1924 in Plum City, Wisconsin. He's buried in the Maiden Rock cemetery in Pierce County, Wisconsin.
