Sir George Arthur French was the first commissioner of the North West Mounted Police, now known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
On 18 Dec. 1862 he married Janet Clarke Innes (d. 1917) in Kingston, Upper Canada, and they had two sons and three daughters .
