Migrated to/Born in USA

My Great Grandfather Patrick Donnelly was born in 1829 in the Township of Greaghnadarragh a few miles to the West of Bailieborough in the County of Cavan. He was the son of farmers Brian Donnelly and Rose Carolan. Life was hard as a young man growing up on the 20 acre farm and when the long 1845 potatoe famine struck the townland he ,like many others, decided to emigrate to New York to try and make his fortune and return with enough money to improve life on the families farm. This he did and because of it he managed to secure the tenancy of two neighbouring farms and together with his wife Mary Clarke go on to beget eleven children. This branch of the Donnelly families of Greaghnadarragh were known as the Porras. Some of these children decided themselves at youing ages and for different reasons to emigrate and leave Ireland behind them some for good. The attached collection of stories are theirs under the title of "The Porras Donnellys Abroad".
