Thomas Gould was born in the Parish of Drummully (listed as Drummellen or Drummella on Discharge) in the County of Fermanagh around 1783.

On 25th Oct 1804 he joined the 6th Dragoons and served with them until 24th Apr 1806.  He was transferred to 7th RV Battalion for a year, serving at the Tower of London. Thomas was one of 500 men transferred to create the 11th Royal Veterans on the 25th Apr 1807. On 24th July 1814, after 9 years 273 days of Service, Private Thomas Gould was discharged, as Rheumatism had rendered him unfit for service.

The history of the 11th during the time Thomas served:  May 1807 – Mar 1808 Guernsey; Apr 1808 Portsmouth; Aug 1808 to Apr 1814 Winchelsea; 1811 to 1813 3 Companies on Isle of Man; Aug 1812 to 1813 3 companies on Anholt. Apr 1813 Hythe, where Thomas was on discharge.

The description given on the Discharge Papers: Aged about 32 Height 5ft 8” Hair Light Brown Eyes Grey Complexion Fair.  His Trade a Weaver.

In 1805 Thomas married Eleanor Overland, Rev Mr Maguire PP of Drummully, County Fermanagh officiated the marriage.

They had 8 children:- Ellen, Henry, Thomas, William Mary, Rosanne, Margaret & John.

On the 9th March 1825 at Roscommon Assizes before Baron Smith, Thomas was found guilty of manslaughter, along with 3 others, a 5th member was found guilty of murder.  They were watchmen of Athlone, and had wilfully taken the life of John Connor.  The sentence was transportation for the term of his natural life.

He was transported to the Colony of New South Wales via “Sir Godfrey Webster” on 3rd Jan 1826.

He was 43 with Greyish hair and a sallow complexion. He was assigned to Hyde Park as a General Servant. 

On the 20th October 1828 he was given a Ticket of Exemption from Government Labour and allowed to reside with his wife and family who had joined him in the Colony.  Eleanor and 6 of their children, arrived via “Sir Joseph Banks” on 7th Oct 1828.  Their eldest daughter Ellen was not with them, her age precluded her from free passage, and their daughter Rosanne had died in 1827.

Thomas died in Sydney on 26th January 1829.
