Thank you Marie,
this is a great start!
My gGrandfather, Thomas Hamilton (B 1822/3) aged 19 joined the 84th Regiment of Foot at Newry in January 1842. He served in India and 22 years after sigining-up, he returned to settle in Glasgow.
His father (my ggGrandfather), was also Thomas, so he and Catherine would have been from about 40 years before the people you mention, but I'd like to think there might be some family connection there like another son or a cousin. I oftern wonder where did the Hamiltons in Tullylish come from? Were they Scots? Were they from the west of Ireland? (I'm thinking Manor Hamilton Co Leitrim) Were they a mixture of both? McLean is an Isle of Mull name, so that is a possible Hebridean/Argyll connection. Any thoughts? Mandy

My Great Grandparents were Robert McKaine/ McKane and Fanny McEvoy/ Frances Louisa McEvoy/ McAvoy. I am not able to find out where they came from nor if they had family close by in Tullylish. Robert was a Blacksmith so for the length of his married life they lived in Ballykelly townland , in the Parish of Seapatrick, County Down. I often wondered whether Robert was in the Army and left sometime around 1860. Another thought that came to me was a conversation with another man and it was that some Squires or land holders were asked to be Godparents or Witness at a Wedding as a priviledge. I might be wrong but maybe you are on the right track thinking the Hamilton family could be on the Hierarchy lists. You should look there. Marie
